Aren't you glad you graduated from college years ago?

My father had another $10,000. I went to school for 3.5 years and the scholarships I earned paid for about one semester. It's amusing to think $25,000 for my college education was cheap.
I do not envy those of you with kids.

Today I lifted heavy boxes out of a storage place in Chelsea, unloaded them at a storage space in New Jersey where we picked up Other Boxes to take to a hotel in the West Village and a gallery in SoHo. And now, I just might die. Also my arms are bruised and cut so badly it looks like I have a disorder of some kind. Cancer or cutter - who knows!

It's nice to get just a liiiiiiiiiiitle bit excited about Texas. Probably the only thing that's keeping me from bawling my eyes out right now is the excitement of Taco Cabana, pitchers of cheap Lonestar, and massive/tasty margaritas.
There is a part of this job that I am not comfortable with yet, but I most certainly need to be. It's the closing. It will ALWAYS happen. As one a stage manager tonight mentioned (her response to the constant questions about the fate of her own show), "even Cats closed." SHIT CLOSES. But fuck, it still makes me miserable.
Grease is only my second Broadway gig (I don't count CB), and I've been on it as long as Grey Gardens. But I totally feel closer to the cast and crew at Grease, as many were closer to my own age and god DAMN did we have a fun time. Back stage, off stage, on stage... whatever. A really fun show to work on. I don't give a fuck that every theatre-type hated us, that we're the "thank god they're closing" of this stupid black-January on Broadway. I love the people I work with and genuinely enjoy going to work each day.

Tonight I called the show for the final time. I tried to say a thank you to the crew over headset and say how grateful I am for them and how good they make me look. I mustered "thank you" before getting all teary and had to punch out the microphone.

Dreading tomorrow.

will you ever forget where you were on nov. 4 2008? i mean, unless you're one of the libertarians on my friend's list, when it was just another day stroking your firearm before bedtime. KIDDING.

brooklyn was a fantastic place. h and i were eating vegetarian (COMMIE) chili cheese fries and watching CNN on mute in a bar/restaurant. after 'BREAKING NEWS' was flashed on the screen they turned on the volume and we watched Chicago cheer. I cried a bit. We paid our bill and raced home to watch Obama's speech on cnn.com (NO CABLE HAVING PINKOS). On the walk home I kept saying I was thankful it was finally over - h continued to remind me that it's only just begun.

i had a really freak accident on my bike today. i was passing a double parked truck on a busy street when a group of guys tossed a rope over the large item in the truck's bed. of course, said rope hit me, wrapped around my neck, and tightened as i continued to ride, unable to stop because of the number of cars speeding past me. finally i got beyond the truck as the rope got super tight and i came crashing down in the car-free area in front of the truck. the workers surrounded me, helped me up (i was crying and shaking like mad) and let me sit in their warehouse until i could go. made a trip to the hospital because i can and the doctor sent me home with NO PAINKILLERS, the jerk, and didn't even mention the enormous welt on my neck until i insisted he look at it ("oh it's a 2nd, a 1st, a 2nd degree burn") and wash it out.

so so so coulda died. lame-o.

Not too long ago there was a lawsuit in the city involving multiple residents in a building brought on by a non-smoking family. Their beef was with a smoker on their floor who smoked in her apartment, and their claim was that the smell invaded their own space and caused possible damage to their precious children. I (and the judge on the case) dismissed it as obnoxious New York parents being overly concerned for their delicate children, as so many of them are, but now that I live in a building of smokers I actually see their point. I'm fairly certain the woman below our apartment is a smoker and it's possible that the one next door is as well. In my own bedroom I'm currently drowning in the smell of cigarettes. Open the window and it gets worse. I just want to enjoy the breeze from the pretty storm that's rolling in (and keeping me from getting on my bike) but instead it smells like I just spent the night at Emo's. Blegh.
